In our current society there are a lot of things that get us stressed or to feel pressured. Examples are how everyone wants their own home and car as soon as possible. If we believe social media we should have our own appartment at the age of 21 and have a nice car at 23. If you want to surprise people around you for a day or two than yes people will admire that you have been able to achieve it. But at what cost? How much debt do you have now? Will you be able to pay it off or will you have to default?
Don’t get pressured into following the joneses. Having a nicer car than your neighbours in front of your house doesn’t make you better than them. You can even argue that if you do the opposite of most people you will end up ahead in the long run. This is called delayed gratification. If you prefer to save and/or invest your money you will more than likely seem to be someone with less money to spend. While in truth you will be the one who has extra money to use when needed for an emergency or for enjoyment.
Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is all an opportunity for me to rise. – Kobe Bryant
How you react on pressure is completely up to you. It can cause you to be worried, stressed, paralysed and so much more. Or you can at first instance be a couple of those but allow yourself to perform under this pressure and become better at it. When focussed on improvement you will start to love the pressure and strive on it.
If you figure out how to prefer pressure you can perform in any situation where others freeze up. They will look up to you and it doesn’t cost you a penny. At the same time your skills will be worth a lot and you can use them at any point. May it be to do presentations, to confront your boss when something is going wrong to protect your friends and family.
