When going out or being with family we frequently use our phone, to check our facebook, mail or whatsapp. What else would you do if you are not using your phone? You can only know how it feels when you try to be present there without using your phone.
If you learn how to be present with your friends and family you will learn to do the same when being with colleagues or with your new potential boss. Knowing how to live in the moment is a very underrated skill. Being at the moment means people can ask you to do things without being interrupted by your phone.
Phones are interesting objects. Sometimes you wish they just didn’t exist. – Iskra Lawrence
Besides being present you can also learn a lot from using your phone less. You learn to set priorities. When you are always available for the person sitting in front of you there is no need for you to constantly be reading everyone’s messages on facebook. They will message or call you when something important is happening.
Once you are used to leave you phone behind you are able to focus on the things at hand. May it be working out, playing music or learning. You will become a lot more productive compared to everyone else. This will also influence how good of an employee you are perceived and by consequence how much you are paid.
Opportunities arise more when you are living in the moment. For example waiting for public transportation you can either choose to scroll on your phone or to to be patiently waiting and allowing people to talk to you.
