Starting your goal to a healthier life can seem to be a difficult and long race. That is why we should try to make things easier for ourselves. What we don’t want to happen is to have to fight ourselves trying not to eat unhealthy foods and having to fight family or friends at the same time. Finding a partner in “food-crime” is a good way to prevent these fights.
Aren’t your friends or family not yet convinced of turning the other side? Try to show them how life can be healthy and fun at the same time. It will take some time for you to show them, but in the long run it will help you a lot. Having people not just supporting you in your road, but joining in on it makes it so much more doable and enjoyable.
Food, to me, is always about cooking and eating with those you love and care for. – David Chang
Dinner time with family is so important. Not enjoying this time with your family because of food choices is a bad choice in the long run. Eating healthy while the rest likes to eat less healthy is extremely difficult and even taxing on the relationship. If your family isn’t supportive in your choices, show them that it is a permanent change that isn’t going away.
Are you stuck because your parents cook your meals? Take a cooking class and cook a meal once in a while. When you know how to cook safely but prefer people not to see you cook at first, try cooking when you are alone at home. When you are comfortable with your cooking you can offer to cook a meal for yourself (and possibly for your parents) when your parents don’t have time to do so. This can be an extra binding connection with your family if you can cook for them once in a while.
If there is no possibility at home to eat healthy together. Try your friends out. Plan a night out that contains healthy food. You and your friends might like this for a change or turn into healthy-food-buddies.
