Fitness is useless and unimportant. That is a sentence I never thought I would use. Of course it’s relative it can be seen to be great or to be an hindrance. If you do it wrong you will constantly getting injured and reduce your moral. On the other hand if you take care of your body you will thank yourself later in life.
We are all brought up thinking that fitness is the Holy Grail and that nothing is more important than it. It’s true that what some people consider to be fitness is important. If you look at movement being fitness than it sure is essential. Fitness as in lifting weights can be your way of movement, which maintains it’s greatness. However if you consider weightlifting solely as the challenge of constantly improving the amount of weight you can lift it doesn’t necessarily mean an improvement in health.
Time and health are two precious assets that we don’t recognize and appreciate until they have been depleted. – Denis Waitley
Appreciate movement for what it is: a method of building or maintaining your health. Movement comes in many forms, how you do it is dependant on what you prefer the most. When you appreciate the method you move it becomes easier to do it. For example due to the pandemic many people have figured out how much going out and going for a walk can be really relaxing and can free our mind from all the responsibilities and difficulties in life.
When you build up a routine for yourself it is up to you how intense you make it. Starting out you are best beginning slowly, build up so your body is able to do more and more. This is the good way of moving forward, striving for constant new PB’s can be very motivated when you achieve them, but they will hurt your progress if you keep on pushing without obtaining them. You should focus on working out and seeing your numbers grow after a while.
Having a healthy life is important, how much fitness-like activities you have to add-in to achieve this depends on your current lifestyle. Don’t solely look at what you have to do but also listen to your body and take a break when you have to.
