What aren’t you skilled in yet?

In life there are many skills to learn. Some of them we instantly click with, others are more special and we rarely consider them. For our chances on the job market it’s great to focus on those skills that are usefull and desired by employers. At the start of our carreer it’s important to focus in it, but the further we get it’s also great to learn new skills that are far away from your job.

Doing something so much different from your job gives your purpose and the ability to refresh your mind from a workweek. For example a taxi driver will not directly benefit from playing an instrument. Yet when doing this in the weekend you can enjoy yourself doing something completely diffirent from your work. The same thing goes for a gardener writing a blog about a subject they are passionate about, but isn’t gardening. If you love doing something you can make it your job, when doing so it’s advised to finding a new hobby. Doing the same in your working hours as in your spare time might burn you out in the future. At some point you might get tired of your job if you have constantly been doing it in your free time as well this can come quicker than you think.

Every skill you acquire doubles your odds of success. – Scott Adams

Our work is important, because without it we wouldn’t be able to survive. At least not in our current society and way of living. Unless you want to live as our ancestors you will have to find a method of earrning money so you can purchase everything to survive. The more skills you are learning the better you will be capable of becoming and maintaining independant. If your way of earning money ends up being impossible in the future you can apply any of your others skills to do something new. Likewise if your boss and your colleagues know how motivated you are and your great mindset they may invite you to join their new adventure.

While you are doing great at your job don’t settle for it. Continue to add new abilities and learn new skills. You never know when this will help you out. The new skills will shine at moments you least expect it and they can provide you with a new opportunity. May it be switching carreers or adding an extra stream of income. For example learning to repair every day items will allow you to help out others and maybe even receive a small tip for your great work. Or end up with more frequent calls so you can end up making a nice extra amount.
