Is it possible to remain/feel healthy during the holidays? The end of the year may seem like a difficult time to remain healthy. The thing that really matters is how you want to handle your holidays.
During the holidays we all spend a lot of time eating. It is important that we enjoy ourselves, not having ourselves back, but still feeling healthy. This way we can fully enjoy spending time with family not having to feel guilty for dropping our health goals.
One of the ways you can remain healthy is by picking one of the following possibilities. Firstly you can either eat watever you want, but taking smaller portions. Or you can eat lots of food, but choosing the more healthier options. The choice between these two is yours. Choose what you like the most. The same thing goes for alcohol. When you are being offered a drink, not having to refuse it can be really enjoyable. You can take this one time of the year allowing yourself to get a drink. Aslong as you can stay over for the night or have someone bring you home who didn’t drink.
I love thanksgiving because it’s a holiday that is centered around food and family, two things that are of utmost importance to me. – Marcus Samuelsson.
If you know you don’t want to look at what you will be eating there are also some tricks that you can use. For example going to eat at your friends house in a few hours? Eat some oats or an apple before you go there. If you have already eaten a bit, you will be less hungry when you start with the meal. Same thing goes for drinking water before the meal.
Another thing you can consider is if you want to workout before or after the big meal. Having some movement will help you feel better about the meal. The food you will eat will be used to recover from your workout. Also your hard work during the year will finally pay off! Because you have exercised during the year you will have a better developed body that is able to withstand the holidays.
When you have decided if you want to think about what you eat stick with your decision. If you want to just enjoy your time and eat what you want, then do it. Don’t stress the little things. If you pay attention to your health during the rest of the year you will maintain your health. There is nothing wrong about having a week to focus on family friends and having a good time.
Such a good post so needed this time of year.
Thank you for your kind words! The holidays are so great, thinking about our health during that time is not so easy.
