Everyone has some form of an addiction. Will you acknowledge that you have or had an addiction or are you putting your head in the sand?
There are so many addictions that you can never sum up all the addictions there are. People can get addicted to anything. Addictions we all know: alcohol, drugs, porn, and so on. Addictions we tend to ignore: coffee, social media, smartphone, laptop. If you have a light form of addiction to something it’s easy to ignore the issue. Everyone uses their phone often why would I have a problem? It’s not because everyone would use drugs that it can’t be an addiction. This is why alcohol abuse is often only being considered a real problem when it doesn’t just overtake someone’s life completely but when it’s clear to other that it does and it influences their daily behaviour so much that it can’t be hidden anymore. For example people can refuse to join for a walk because they rather drink alcohol. However this is not visible unless for example the person is being fired because of not turning up to their work multiple times and it comes out that it’s because of alcohol abuse.
Addiction is a hugely complex and destructive disease, and its impact can be simply devastating. All too often, lives and families can be shattered by it. – Kate Middleton
Depending on the level of addiction it’s possible to hide it for a long time untill everything is about the addiction. Job will be lost, people will get hurt physically and emotionally, relationship will be broken, It only becomes clear how destructive the addiction is from the moment a lot of the daily life is being overshadowed by the addiction. When your normal life stops to continue as before it has gone too far. To avoid the addiction to take over your life you can acknowledge what is happening and stop it before it comes too much. Plenty of people accept what has been going on and can do something about it before it takes over their life. This can only be done when you understand what it’s doing.
Take time to find what the triggers are for you to fall into the actions participating in your addiction. Are you grabbing to alcohol when you had a argument with your family, when you been alone too long, when you had a bad day, when you lost money? When you know the trigger you can start to learn what you can do to reduce the trigger and in turn reduce your risk of starting it again. For example if you had a bad day at work you went home and relax by drinking alcohol alone it may be helpfull to talk to a friend at that time. If you take part in your addiction because you lost money on the stock market it may not be something that you should participate in. If you take on the problem fast enough you may not become too addicted. You can solve the problems before they actually arise. You can avoid losing your job, you can save your marriage, you can continue to see your children.
