Life has many subjects that you could learn and strive to be the best in. Which ones are you picking?
As child we have to become decent at all the subjects we are being thought. But don’t mistake yourself thinking that you will have to continue on the path to have to know everything that crosses your path. Having notions of everything that comes up is the ideal situation but you will never know everything. As an example let’s look at starting your own business. Your skill may be to locate new fantastic products that can be sold, but you have tried over and over again but your sales don’t align with the great products you have. You may not be the salesperson and have to find someone else to do it for you. The best companies in the world, both small and large, require multiple people with different talents.
An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made, in a narrow field. – Niels Bohr
It’s impossible in life to be an expert at everything. If it would be possible then why would there be so much experts in specific fields? Instead of focussing on trying to do everything marginally you should chose to become an expert in something very specific. Figure out what skill you want to learn and become an expert. This can be achieved by spending many hours, sometimes a bit of money on training and even restless nights to become the best in your niche. As you become the go-to-expert you will know the ins and out in your niche. If someone need an expert they will no longer have to find multiple people to get the best result but they can just come to you.
Finding the area you want to prioritise is not easy, but very important. The first place where you should look is what do you like to do in your spare time. What is something you spend countless hours on? Especially if this is something that no one else around you is willing to spend that much time on. This can go from cleaning aquariums, fixing cars, finding new business ideas to creating art. Before you become expert in it you can opt for choosing a job in that direction or even building a business around it. The more time you spend on it the quicker you’ll become an expert. Turning your interest into a job will improve the speed in which you can become the expert in that field.
