Being cheap vs frugal

being cheap
Should we seek to be cheap?

Last article teached us how being frugal can help us find peacefullness. Let us delve deeper into the difference between frugality and being cheap.

Being cheap means that you always find a way to lower the amount of money to spend and strive for not spending anything whatsoever. Frugality leans towards the same direction. The difference lies in the details. Being frugal you carefully consider the value of all goods before purchasing them.

Real happiness is cheap enough, yet how dearly we pay for its counterfeit. – Hosea Ballou

Be carefull not just on how much you spend in general. Consider whether a good is worth the extra bucks or not. A great example is the higher cost for premium goods. When they are solely a premium good because of the brand don’t buy it. However when a higher end good has a longer lifespan plus has benefits than consider paying more. Don’t focus solely on paying the least amount short term.

Opposite to the cheap mindset it is sometimes great to pay more for certain goods. Invest in your life, buy healthy food instead of cheap fast food. Buy a fitness subscription or invest in free weights at home. Spending money right now might be saving money in the long run. Take care of your health, regardless of the current cost. It will protect you against expensive health issues in the future.
