If you see you are getting results with doing the same thing over and over, will you change things?
There are plenty of goals people could have. Once you have a certain goal that you set for yourself you need to find methods to achieve what you want. If you have found something that works don’t try to reinvent the wheel. If your goal is losing weight and you are still getting lighter what is the point of finding the new “best” thing. Instead of making it difficult on yourself to learn something new stick to the same thing untill you notice it doesn’t work anymore. Yes, you can search for new methods to do after you current method doesn’t work anymore. But don’t switch over to it unless it’s necessary.
Don’t strive for variation – and thus increase option consideration – Timothy Ferriss
Changing something that doesn’t work is great. Changing something that is already working is not so smart. Even if you need to change something it might be enough if you adjust it slightly instead of totally turning around. For example if your movement of choice is to go for a jog every morning and it still helps you lose some weight you shouldn’t be switching to weight lifting yet. If you love jogging it might even be best to never switch to something else. Just adapt what you are doing. For example instead of going for a jog 2 times a week, increase it to 3-4 times. Or increase the intensity.
People around you may pay more attention to you switching things around. But the goal isn’t to have the most impact on others, rather to reach your goal. If you are still feeling great with what you are doing and continue to get gains keep doing it. It’s much better to do something that you love that continues to work decently rather than going for something that might work better but you hate doing. Sticking with what you know that works has an extra benefit. It will help you keep your willpower high. If you have to learn to do something new it’s a constant struggle of choice all over again. However if you continue to do what you have been doing for months it’s almost happening automatically.
