When there is a goal you site for yourself like building a home there are many steps you have to take. As with anything their are moments that require more time till completion. With a house it’s the moment where different contractors are dependant on each other for completion. The house may have been built but it takes time for finishing.
Setting a goal is the easy part, when you see a lot of momentum and are feeling the progress it’s easy. However the difficult part is when you put in a lot of effort at the start and barely see any progress. This is the reason why people start the healthy lifestyle and give up after not feeling any different. The same thing can be said for attempting to learn a new language. You spend a lot of time trying to learn the basics, but it takes a long time before you are able to speak with others. Instead of feeling an instant reward it takes a long time.
Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal. – E. Joseph Cossman
To achieve a certain goal we look at the end goal to keep us motivated. The problem with this is that you want to see progress otherwise you may give up. A different way of looking at it is to become the person you set yourself to become instead of achieving the goal. Instead of wanting to be able to run a marathon or to loose weight you can envision yourself becoming healthy. If you don’t see certain results you are still on your route to the higher goal. If you are eating healthier you know you are doing better, even if you don’t see it on the scale. At the same time you will avoid reaching your goal and slacking off again and dropping back to old habits.
Simply obtaining your goal will may cause you to fall back. Think about finally being accepted in the company you wanted to join in your dream job. If this was your goal and you don’t adjust to a new goal you will be outperformed by your colleagues and by other persons who are aiming for your position. Never be satisfied on your level to stop pushing. When you have obtained your certain position keep putting new habits into place. Link your habits to current ones so it’s easier to maintain. For example start meditating when you wake up, learn a new language after you eat, go for a walk with your friends every weekend and so on.
