Having a good night’s rest

There are 3 essential parts of having a great structure for a good healthy fitness regime:

  1. Sleep
  2. Movement
  3. Nutrition

Let us start with the most underrated part of a healthy life. Having a good night of sleep isn’t a top priority to many of us. Ask for anyone having sleep issues and you will notice how important it actually is and how much lack of sleep can influence your life.

When was the last time you had a great sleep? Hopefully your answer to this question would be last night. Unfortunately it’s not realistic to believe that everyone has a good night’s sleep all nights.

How many hours of sleep are you able to get in every night?

The amount of hours you need to get every night isn’t a black and white answer. Everyone is different in the amount of time they need to sleep to recover from the day. Some people need 10 hours every day to function properly, a lot of people manage to continue on between 6-8 hours and sleep and even less people only need to have around 4 hours.

The important part is that you figure out to what group you correspond. When you don’t have any meeting or appointments next morning consider not putting on an alarm. This way you can see how much your body is in need of a long sleep. If you want to figure out the best amount of hours of sleep you can leave your alarm off a couple times per week. Your body will tell you when you are ready to wake up.

It is not only the amount of hours you slept, but also how deep you slept during the night. One of the things to look for is trying to stay asleep the entire night without waking up multiple times. Depending on your needs waking up once or twice a night isn’t bad. But ideally you would want to avoid waking up at night and especially avoid looking on your phone at night. No one is going to send you an important message at night. All other things can wait till the morning.

A big hindrance towards a good night of sleep is eating, drinking coffee or alcohol in the evening. Dending on the amount of the food and your body posture it may or may not influence how well you can sleep. If you drink coffee in the evening your body might not be able to fall insleep, due to the extra energy or a more intense hearth beating in the evening. As most people know alcohol will give you a quick way to fall asleep, unfortunately this will influence how good your sleep is.
