Our society is completely filled with social media. We often feel like if we aren’t joining in on social media that we aren’t part of society. Nothing is more wrong than that. Agreed without social media, without meeting up with people and not following the news we would get isolated. However giving up, or reducing, social media does not mean you have to skip meeting friends.
If you manage to take some distance from social media you will free up a lot of your time. This time can be used for enjoying time with your friends, following the news or even make time for more pressing things. With more free time at hand you can spend more time with your family and friends or in your hobbies. All these moments get much more meaning if you are not being distracted by social media.
It takes discipline not to let social media steal your time. – Alexis Ohanian
Once you decide to decrease your social media time you will notice how much time you lost before. One reason people often give to not give up on social media is because they feel they wont get invited to parties or meetings anymore. If you are afraid of that just start easy and only use your social media for a quick check if someone messaged you. didn’t receive a message? Log back out.
Wanna give it a go to distance yourself from social media? Next time you are together with someone put your phone on silent, put off your internet and keep your phone in your pocket. The first times it will be strange to not have your phone as a comfortzone. Slowly but surely enjoy your downtime and enjoy the beautifull moment you have created. Without social media your real life connections will have so much more energy. Even that much that you wont need social media anymore to get invitations.
