In our last article we talked about our societies overconsuming. We tend to lean towards consuming more and more. We feel happy when we can eat something tasty after achieving our goal. There is nothing wrong with rewarding ourselves, but you can always choose to change the way you reward yourself.
Instead of going to eat out try and pick a different reward. Buy yourself a music instrument or a book. Enjoy the reward that time can be for you by using it to play music or read a book. When you have learned to enjoy this way you can end up enjoying your time without even consuming anything. Go outside and enjoy the sound of silence or seeing the peace of looking at animals.
Too many of us now tend to worship self-indulgence and consumption. – Jimmy Carter
It’s not because many of us reward ourselves with consumption that we have to follow that path. Dare to stand out to enjoy the things that others just walk by and ignore. When you walk to your destination look around you, don’t just focus on the goal. Enjoy the road to success, not just the end goal.
True happiness does not derive from consumption. When trying to enjoy life through consumption you are missing out on the feeling of true happiness. Enjoy life through the small things of life. Nature isn’t made for letting us consume it having no regard for everything living around us.
