The slow progress is important

The most beautiful trees are the ones that require work to maintain

With the social media around it’s easy to see how others are doing and it seems like achieving goals happen all at once, without any effort. It’s important not to compare yourself to others.

Social media shows everyone around you achieving all the goals they ever wanted. Because if they wouldn’t achieve the goal you wouldn’t find it on social media. Imagine seeing everyone on the beach having a great time with their beach-body. The people with normal bodies will enjoy their time, but will not be posting a hundred photos at the beach. Instead of focussing all your time looking at their pictures work towards your goals. Go for a 30 minute walk instead of scrolling the social media. Soon you will be the person who could post the pictures, yet it’s even better if you focus on new goals instead of posting everything.

If you ask people around you how long their last big goal took they will probably not even remember what the goal was. If you are lucky they will remember the goal and the many hours, days, week and months that it took them to achieve what they desired. All the big goals require to allocate a lot of effort and time. For example building your health and maintaining it wont happen overnight. Start with small steps and continue to take them despite if it seems that the progress is non-existant. Achieving a goal doesn’t require quick progress, yet it requires persistence for as long as is needed.

If you believe in quick fixes, like getting rich quick you will get burned. Appreciate that before completing a goal you need to remain on track for a long time. Only the people who are willing to take the slow route are able to improve greatly. Taking small increments means that you are adding or changing habits that in the long run will make you achieve your goals. Think about attempting to grow your own vegetables. If you add some water they can grow quicker, but if you give them too much water you will have nothing left. It’s never smart to go all out in a short amount of time.
