Think yourself

Don’t follow everyone, think on your own

The people we surround ourselves with are important person in our life. They have their opinion on everything in life, so they also have a vision about what you should do and how you should act. This is mostly with the best intentions, but try to think about what you want to do instead of solely following others.

If you did something everyone will have their thoughts about it if you made a mistake or you did something good. Instead of letting others decide on it reflect for yourself what you think about it. For example if you want to resign from your current job to start somewhere else it’s your intuition that you have to follow and not from anyone else. You have to do this job every day, not your friends or family. Listening to the people you surround yourself with and considering their opinion is great, but decide what you are inclined to follow.

If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn’t thinking. – George S. Patton

See someone achieving the goal you desire? It’s great to learn from it, however resist blindly following what they are doing. When your colleagues have an idea on how to solve an issue it might be the best option. However when you are sitting in a room together with 4 other colleagues chances are that one of the silent ones has a better method. Everyone thinks differently so to think that everyone in the room is completely thinking alike is a lie. It may be true that the solution that is being chosen is the best option, but it will never be the only possibility.

When you refuse to come out for how you think about something it may cause you and your colleagues to waste time, resources and effort. What you were thinking might be the superior option. Knowing that a solution is wrong but not coming out for this opinion could also hurt the group. If you are doubting about the proposal let them know that you have some questions about it. While it may not change which solution is going to be used everyone will think about the best solution. The same thing counts for when your boss suggests a certain next step. If you are unsure if it’s the right decision nothing hold you back from talking about it. Most bosses prefer to have things being questioned rather than having it being followed with negative results.
